The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan has asked the government to review its decision on denationalisation of Saint Patrick and Saint Joseph colleges.

He appealed to the government to withdraw its decision pertaining to the privatisation of these colleges and observed that Karachi would be the most affected city of the country by the denationalisation of colleges.

While addressing the affected students and their parents, including the teaching staff of these colleges, he said that the denationalisation policy would promote class system in the society.

Naimatullah rejected the impression that privatisation of colleges would improve the standard of education and recalled that in the past, under the self finance scheme those students who used to obtain less marks got admissions, whereas the deserving ones remained deprive of getting admission.

He declared the self-financing scheme as the murder of merit and said that it was he who put an end to this system and started giving admissions purely on merit basis.

Karachi Nazim was of the opinion that prior to any decision regarding denationalisation of colleges all the stakeholders or the affected people should thoroughly be consulted and taken into confidence.

He claimed that the standard of government schools was improving and the gap between the private and public sector schools was rapidly narrowing down.

Highlighting the significance of education, he pointed out that CDGK had allocated a huge share ie 31 percent of its total budget for education. Also present on the occasion, DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali supported the Nazim's stance against denationalisation of colleges and said that he himself got education from Saint Patrick School whose standard of education was improving day by day.

Prominent among others who attended the ceremony were Principal Saint Joseph College, Dr Tanveer Anjum, Acting Principal, Saint Patrick College, Professor Barkat Bhatti, Central President Sapla, Professor Riaz Ahsan, Sapla, Karachi President, Manzoor Chishti and General Secretary, Ather Mirza.
